Jonathan Rossmoine, from Louisana, has been arrested after a teenage girl from Florida was discovered to be hiding him in her closet. It wasn’t until her parents discovered the man in her bedroom that the story of how he had been grooming her for the past two years unravelled.

The 36-year-old has been arrested and charged with multiple sex crimes, as the girl’s parents discovered he had been living in their Spring Hill, Hernando County home for over a month.

Allegedly, Rossmoine confessed to travelling from Louisana to Florida on multiple occasions so that he could see the child and have sex. The young girl had been describing him as her boyfriend.

Police then say that the man moved into the girl’s bedroom in August and he would hide in the closet when the parents were around.

When the girl’s parents discovered Rossmoine in the closet the Hernando County investigators were immediately called to the home.

It has been revealed that the 36-year-old man had been talking to the child for the past two years after they met through VRChat when she was around 13.

VRChat, a virtual reality social platform, allows people to change their appearance with a 3D avatar, essentially meaning people can change their identities.

It is suspected that the paedophile drove from Louisana to Spring Hill so that he could meet his victim and have sex with her on several occasions.

It is believed that Rossmoine had been living in the girl’s bedroom since August 19 and he managed to remain undetected for around five weeks as he had the help of the teenager, who would inform him when her parents were going to work.

Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Detective Tom Cameron said: “He and the young lady came up with the idea that he could just stay in her room if he hid in the closet whenever the parents came in.

“They kept the bedroom door closed and locked and whenever someone came to the door it gave them an opportunity to run and hide in the closet and open up the door to where maybe she was changing or something. ”

It wasn’t until five weeks had passed that the parents realised that there were noises coming from the bedroom. The parents were then horrified to discover Rossmoine in the storage space.

The 36-year-old has been arrested and charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious behaviour with a victim between the age of 12 and 16 and one count of obscene communication and travel to meet after use of a computer to lure a child.

Police say that the child was referring to the alleged abuser as her boyfriend.

Child psychologist Dr Wendy Rice told Fox 13 that this shocking case was a warning to parents that they should be aware of how dangerous the online world can be to their kids.

“Kids can be doing things under our noses and in your house that you might not be aware of that could shock you.

“Get the electronics out of the bedroom. That is key. None of us really need to be sleeping with our phones next to our beds and least of all teens.”

Rossmoine is currently being held in the Hernando County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
