Around three months ago, an incident sparked outrage across a local community and the nation when the son of a prominent judge in Butler County, New York, pleaded guilty to charges connected with child pornography possession. As you can imagine, folks were horrified after learning John Paul Doerr III, age 34, was walking away with his freedom intact after being sentenced to six months house arrest, five years probation, and along with a small fine. After pleading guilty to 35 counts of child pornography, John Doerr will also be listed on the Megan’s Law sex offender registry. Typically a crime of this magnitude could easily earn someone over 250 years in prison, yet for some reason, he received a considerably lighter sentence, WFTV reports.

Many feel that his sentence as something to do with being the son of Butler County’s president judge, Thomas Doerr. After the announcement of the decision, dozens of protestors gathered outside the Butler County Courthouse on Friday to express their outrage over what is clearly a miscarriage of justice and perhaps a clear display of public corruption and favoritism.

“It’s not fair. He (could have) gotten 252 years behind bars, (but) instead, he got probation and house arrest,” said Madison Morgan, a demonstrator. “It’s because of who his father is.”

Doerr III was originally arrested just after confessing that he had downloa4ed several child pornography videoes. One video featured a child between the age of 1 and 2 years old. Investigators were able to track Doerr’s location using his computer’s IP address.

Who remembers this??? From 252 potential prison years for his crimes (downloaded pornography for children as young as 2) he got 5 yr probation. White privilege?🤔

Butler County officials discussed the case with local media and said there was nothing wrong with the case’s outcome. According to the District Attorney, he immediately gave Doerr’s case over to the attorney genera’s office to ensure no local judge would preside over Doerr’s case and further ensure no bias concerning the verdict. The prosecutor assigned to the case also said that this was a normal sentence for cases like this one.

Personally, I feel that either this is a miscarriage of justice or the system needs a major overhaul if this is the norm for those committing this type of crime!
