If you have extra gallons of milk that might go bad soon or you stock up on milk and aren’t quite sure what to do with it now, you should know that you can freeze it! My Heavenly Recipes shared their tips and tricks on how to freeze a gallon of milk and properly thaw it.
- First, remove one cup (about 1 1/2 inches from the top) of milk out of the gallon as milk will expand in the freezer so there’s have to be leave enough room for it. Otherwise it may explode in your freezer.
- If you often use milk in small quantities for coffee or recipes, simply use an ice cube tray! Pour the milk into each section and freeze for a few hours. Once they are set up, put the cubes into a ziplock bag to store in the freezer for a longer period of time. It is then much easier to just grab one cube and thaw it.
- Remember to freeze milk in a glass container only plastic ones as glass don’t react well to the extreme temperature change and it might crack or break.
Note : You can frozen milk for up to three months.
How to thaw milk:
1. You need to take out your milk 1 to 2 days before you actually want to use it.
2. Use a large container and fill it with cold water. Submerge the frozen milk in the water to thaw and set a timer for 30 minutes.
You can also freeze other dairy products such as chocolate milk, cheeses, cream cheese, yogurt, butter, and sour cream. It is best to wrap them in a plastic bag to keep the freezer burn away. Keep up to three months.
